Paula Grant (Lisburn) beat Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell) on the 19th in a dramatic finish at Ballybunion.
In gale force winds the pair battled for the crown.
The 19th Par 4 – Lisa’s drive found the fairway and Paula in the rough on the right. Paula punched her second with a wood 50 yards short of the green. Lisa’s second in greenside trap. 18th Par 4 – Paula wins with par, Lisa’s second shot caught the rough and she was unable to get up and down. Match all square.
17th Par 4 – Lisa wins with conceded par as Paula unable to get up and down from bunker. Lisa 1 up playing the last.
16th Par 5 – Halved in pars. Match remains all square.
15th Par 3 – Paula wins with conceded birdie. Lisa in trouble off the tee and ball nearly unplayable. Match all square.
14th Par 3 – Halved in pars. Paula unlucky not to win hole as tee shot bounced over hole and her 10 ft putt stayed on the lip while Lisa had a wonderful chip and putt. Lisa remains 1up.
13th Par 5 – Paula wins with conceded birdie. Great golf considering the conditions no sign of the gale abating. Lisa 1up.
12th Par 3 – Lisa wins with a conceded birdie putt on the 165 yard par 3! Lisa 2 up.
11th Par 4 – Paula’s turn to miss a putt, Lisa wins with a par. Lisa 1 up
10th Par 4 – Lisa had a putt for a win but missed. Match remains all square
9th Par 5 – Lisa wins with a birdie. Match all square
8th Par 3 – Gale blowing neither player on the green…but both make great pars to halve the hole – Paula 1up

In what is reported to be the youngest ever semi final lineup with the age range between 15 – 19 years, all four players battled gallantly through the challenging Ballybunion links in winds gusting up to 40 mph.
Lisa took a convincing lead on Olivia and was one under par through 4 and 5 up after 5. Olivia fought back with a birdie at the par 3 8th, where she had her hole in one earlier in the week and won the 11th to be 3 down. Lisa, however, was not to be outdone and she won the 12th as Olivia 3 putted, birdied the 13th to go dormie and halved the 14th to reach the final of the Championship which she won in 2009.
Paula Grant started well against Jessica Carty and was 3 up after 4 holes. With winds never abating Jessica managed to birdie the 9th, won the 12th and with Paula conceding the 13th the match was suddenly all square. With the momentum now against her, Paula managed to win the 14th with a magnificent up and down for par. Jessica conceded a birdie putt on the 16th and the match had turned again – Paula was dormie 2 and won on the 17th.

Saturday 22nd June
Mary Sheehy (Tralee) was in blistering form with level par golf to win the Ita Wallace Trophy 9&8 against Shannon Burke (Ballinrobe) much to the delight of her Tralee, Ballybunion and Killarney supporters.
Quarter Finals Olivia Mehaffey secured a semi final place with a 4&3 win against Maria Dunne. Olivia started well and recorded birdies at the 8th and 9th to turn 6 up. Maria fought back and reduced the deficit however Olivia’s shot to 8 ft for birdie on the 203 yard par 3 secured the win. Lisa Maguire had a tight match against Amy Farrell which went to the 18th where Lisa won with conceded par putt. Lisa will now play Olivia in the morning.
Jessica Carty with superb course management in the gale force conditions won her match against Pat Doran on the 15th and will play her Ulster and International team mate Paula Grant who defeated Deirdre Smith for a place in tomorrow afternoons final.
Despite gale force winds and sunshine coming in off the Atlantic, the class Ballybunion links held its own …. Olivia Mehaffey continues her impressive match play form defeating past champion Karen Delaney and advances to this afternoon quarter finals where she will play Maria Dunne. Maria had a great tussle against Carla Reynolds with the match all square after 13, Maria went ahead with pars on the tough par 3 14th & 15th holes, both birdied the 16th but Maria held on to secure her win with par on the home green. Amy Farrell played level par golf in extremely testing conditions to defeat her Leinster team mate Mary Doyle and will now play Lisa Maguire who had a ding dong match against Leona before winning on the 19th with a super up and down from the greenside bunker. Senior International Pat Doran demonstrated her expertise of links to defeat Hannah Henderson and will play Holywood’s Jessica Carty whose immaculate short game proved too good for Mary Dowling. Paula Grant defeated her fellow Ulster team mate Louise Coffey 4&2 with precision play over the tough links and will play past champion Deirdre Smith who defeated fellow International Chloe Ryan on the 17th.
Much to the delight of the locals Mary Sheehy (Tralee) reaches the final of the Ita Wallace Trophy (Plate) and will play Ballinrobe’s upcoming star Shannon Burke. The final will commence at 2.30pm.

Friday 21st June Olivia Mehaffey (Royal Co. Down Ladies) sensationally beat leading qualifier Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) on the home green in a round where the better ball was 8 under par. Olivia recorded birdies at the 2nd, 7th, 13th and a “Hole in One” at the par 3 8th. Stephanie 4 down after twelve produced sub par golf to be 1 down playing 18 but Olivia stitched her second shot to gimme on the par 4 for birdie to which Stephanie could not match.
Olivia will play past champion Karen Delaney (Carlow) in tomorrows second round. Also through is Maria Dunne (Skerries) who will play Carla Reynolds (Seapoint). Amy Farrell (Moate) will play Mary Doyle (The Heath) who came through a tight match against her Girls International team mate Ariana Coyle Diez (Elm Park). The Maguire twins Leona & Lisa will face each other in the morning and it will be a toss up on who will win that! Pat Doran (Donabate) beat the fancied 3rd placed qualifier Lucy Simpson (Massereene) and will take on Hannah Henderson (Ballyclare). Stroke Play Qualifying Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) wins the Leitrim Cup as leading qualifier with rounds of 72, 67 for a total 139. Stephanie’s blistering second round 67 comprised of of 35 out and 32 inward, which included 7 birdies at the 5th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 14th, and 16th and the only blemish on her card was a bogey at the tough par 3 15th hole (measuring 203 yards). As last years runner up Stephanie threw down the gauntlet but will have a tough opening encounter against Irish Girls Stroke Play Champion Olivia Mehaffey.
Chloe Ryan was the model of consistency with rounds of 71 and 73. Her 36 hole total of 144 included 7 birdies and an eagle. She also secumbed to the tough 15th with a treble bogey 6.
